After a week not being able to go to the cinemas because of not having money and not having anybody to accompany me, at last today, I finally got to break my "movie drought"... Damn, it feels good to watch a good movie in the cinemas - being drowned by the loud sound effects, being awed by the amazing slow motion scenes, being pissed off at the fucking idiots who just had to have their lovey dovey conversations in the movies... Ahh... It felt like being at home...
I've been wanting to watch the movie Legend of the Guardians : The Owls of Ga'hoole after reading several reviews saying that the movie is awesome... Alvin and Adi also told me that it was great... knowing that there would most probably be sequels built up even more my desire to watch it... I wanted to watch it so bad that I thought of going to the cinemas alone because my sugar honey was too busy with debate stuff and most of my friends had watched it or too caught up with assignments... but watching a movie with no company is just too... pathetic... I've tried it before, so I know how it's like...
I liked the movie
Why? Because the action scenes were great. Before watching the movie, I thought that a battle between owls would be lame - how much variety of stunts could be pulled anyway? But I thought wrong... The owls were bad asses... Armed with iron beaks and talons, those feathery warriors flew through blizzards and fiercely fought to the end... What was cool was their sneak aerial attacks... Quiet, smooth yet deadly...
The parts where the owls clashed in slow motion were epic... even more awesome was the part where Soren, the main character, flew in slow motion into the eye of a dwarf twister and also surfed pass waves of flames... I love it...
My girlfriend hated it
Why? Because the movie was too straight forward... The story line was typical and the flow of plot could easily be predicted - sibling rivalry, treachery, challenging journeys, adventurous yet maturing combat lessons, ultimate battle, bla bla bla the usual stuff... The characters too were straight forward and predictable - it's so easy to tell which ones were the bad owls and which were the good ones... You could easily guess what would happen next through out the whole movie...
The group of young protagonists/heroes were rather typical in terms of characteristics... The leader - young, full with potential, courageous yet reckless - Soren... The big, muscular but silly one - Twilight... The small but brave and useful - Gylfie... The clown - Digger... Fuhhh... What a cliche...
In simple words - the movie was meant for children... and jocks
