After watching the live action movie of Gantz (2011), I felt like rereading all of the chapters of the manga... and I did it! Yesterday, I finished reading the last chapter which is chapter 339 and it was indeed awesome... 339 chapters in just four days!! Yeah!! I got no life...
GANTZ
Story
A reunion between two teenagers Kurono Kei and Masaru Kato turned out to be horrifying when they were ran over by a train after saving a drunken man who had fallen on the railway track... Later on, they found themselves being revived by a black sphere named Gantz inside a room along with other few people... Gantz sent all of them out into the world with a mission - to kill specific types of aliens within a limited period of time... Those who managed to kill an alien would get points... If they managed to gather up 100 points, they could choose whether to wipe their own memory of everything related to Gantz, get more powerful weapons for the next round and be set free or revive a person that was in the Gantz system... For the every mission, they were given weapons and a body suit for protection and offense...
You must know that this manga contains explicit contents where it is extremely GORY and it has plenty of NUDITY... Therefore, this is not something I want to recommend to kids... It might give them nightmares...
Drawing Style
Gantz was solely written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku sensei... The drawing style is very realistic and according to the real world... Even the wounds that the characters received from battles are drawn in detail and that what makes the manga so gory...
All aspects of the drawings such as the characters, background and effects are made in high details... It's very impressive... It really shows that Hiroya Oku really put so much effort in drawing the manga... Awesome!!
What is Gantz actually??
The chapters have revealed that Gantz, even though appears to be out of this world kind of thing, is actually man-made and the Gantz program has been carried out silently all around the world in order to exterminate the alien intruders... Besides that, the team that has the ability to eradicate the whole force of aliens from their country will have a chance to compete for world domination... Sweet...
Characters
The characters in this manga is very human and their emotions are rather realistic... If u read it, u'll see so many of them crying in the fields of battle out of fear which is rather logical since they are all not well trained soldiers... They are just normal civilians who are forced to be under the Gantz program... Besides fear, they also feel love, remorse and lost...
The emotions triggers the characters' development in the manga... For example, if we look at the main character, Kurono Kei... At first, he was just a perverted loser who couldn't even do a single thing right... However, after being gathered by Gantz and experienced fear and the lost of worthy battle companions, he developed himself to be a strong and reliable leader... After numerous battles, he's now being idolized by most of the Tokyo team members for being so strong hearted, caring and extremely optimistic...
Weapons and Equipments
You gotta love the equipments used by the characters... They are highly destructive and not to mention, effective for eliminating fierce aliens... Here are the list of them:-
The suit is very useful during battle and each Gantz member will be provided with it... Wearing the suit, u'll be almost invincible... Even if being shot at point blank range with a shotgun, u wont feel a thing... No bruises, no scratches... The suit will absorb and neutralized every impact... However, the suit's durability is limited... It cannot withstand high level attacks... But, it doesn't mean that it's useless against powerful enemies because besides strengthening ur defense, it also helps to multiply ur attack impact a hundred times and enhance ur body potential... So, u can run faster than a speeding car, jump higher than a three storey building and smash a solid concrete wall into pebbles with ur bare hands... Awesome...

The controller has multiple functions... The main function is that it acts as a radar to show where the enemies are and what safe area the members should be in while in battle... It's also a device that can turn u invisible... Besides that, it has a timer showing how many time is left for the members to finish the battle...
X-Gun
Hand gun sized weapon and it got its name from the its shape when it is fired... The X-gun uses compressed energy as its ammo where it explodes the enemy from the inside... The weakness of this gun is that the projectile takes time to hit the target and thus the enemy can just easily dodge and launch a counter attack... The gun has a X-ray function which can be used to distinguish between a normal human being or living things and a disguised alien... It also has a lock on function where multiple targets can be hit at the same time...
X-Rifle
The function of the X-rifle is quite similar to the X-gun... The difference between them is that the rifle is meant for long range battle where it has snipe function and a scope... Using the rifle, u can attack ur enemy from as far as 1 km distance...
Y-Gun
The Y-gun has the same functions as the X-gun except for the ammo... Instead of for blowing the enemies up, Y-gun is used to capture aliens... It fires up three jet anchors that are connected with each other by laser ropes which securely tie down the enemies... The tied up enemies will be transfered to an unknown place... Quite ineffective for gigantic aliens...
My favorite Gantz weapon! The blade can be extended for better range and more effective infliction of damage... It can cut almost anything... Best used by Shion Izumi...
Sword

Gantz Cycle
Equipped with a radar, two seats (front and back) and it can move really fast... It also has the stealth ability where it can become invisible...
Note* The weapons and equipments below are for those who have gained 100 points and chose to have more powerful weapons...
H-Gun
The H-gun manipulates gravity... Anything within its target range will be squashed by extremely high gravity force from above... It's extremely deadly and effective in dealing with gigantic enemies...
Advanced Suit
If the normal suit can multiply ur endurance and strength by hundreds, this advanced suit can add more extreme power to it... The enormous arms are indestructible! Besides that, the blades on the elbows can slice through enemies like they are pancakes... The arms are also equipped with laser beams!! Damn cool!! What's that? U want more?? Yeah, it can turn invisible!! and it can let out steam that can fog out a small area to confuse the enemies while in close range combat!!
Flying Gantz Cycle
It's seems a bit similar to the Gantz Cycle but this thing can fly!! and yeah, invisibility mode is available... Awesome huh?
Gantz Mech
The last and biggest equipped! Yeah, like most equipments, it has the ability to turn invisible... The mech is massive where the size is as big as an office building... It is controlled from the Flying Gantz Cycle which is attached to the head of the mech... In order to control it, u must have the advanced Gantz suit where the cables from suit are attached to the mech...
The Aliens
Light years away from Earth, an unknown galaxy has been destroyed and forcing its dwellers to flee to our land... Some learned to co-exist with humans while others chose to invade... Therefore, the Gantz program is made to wipe out these space migrants from the face of the Earth...
The aliens are so bad-ass... They put up an intense fight... The most deadly got to be this one - the Japanese ghost alien... It just wont die!! It's so frustrating to see it come back alive again after being smashed and squashed into bits...
The latest and final alien is the giant human like invaders... What makes them so hard to be eradicated is that they come in numbers... They have the whole civilization against the human race... But the Gantz team are putting up quite a fight... Yosh!!!
Anime
I haven't seen the anime yet but reviews are telling that it's not as good as the manga... According to certain reviewers, the anime kinda sucks because the scenes seem rushed and poorly elaborated...
Movie
I've seen the movie and this is the review!! Cant wait for the sequel!!
All in All
Well, overall, the manga is great... As u can see, there are so much effort being put in creating it... Weapons, alien creations, characters, and etc... They are all made in details... Furthermore, the story is so interesting, engaging and well thought of... I can just simply read the chapters for hours without feeling bored...
However, like I said before, this manga is so gory and it contains a lot of nudity... Therefore, it's not suitable for underage kids...
