Last week, wifey & I rushed baby Ubaid to the emergency room at Hospital Dungun because he had a fever... Actually, the fever was not high but he's been having it for two weeks... Before going to the hospital, we did consult a doctor from a private clinic where she gave us a few bottles of meds... During the two weeks, the fever rose & fell but never went away...
The doctor in the emergency room told me that we should've sent Ubaid to the hospital after five days of fever... I explained to her that we've sent him to a clinic & we didn't think that the fever was serious because it was not that high... She explained to me that if a fever exceeds five days, than it's not regular...
She explained to us that the hospital must take blood samples to determine the problem... The hardest part was holding Ubaid down as he cried & struggled so that the nurses & medical assistants could poke needles through his skin to take blood samples... Poor baby... He didn't understand what was happening & cried so loud because the needles were hurting him... Wifey couldn't help but shed a few tears...
Ubaid's pretty chubby & thus it was hard to locate his veins... The nurses & medical assistants had to poke through his hands & feet a few times before able to retrieve some blood... It angered me a bit to see their trial & error of effort just to retrieve a few drops of blood because Ubaid had to suffer for quite some time... Seeing your baby cry while you hold him down as they moved those needles underneath his skin was painful...
They ran a blood test & found a bit of infection in his blood... and they had to take more blood samples to determine what kind of bacteria it was...
More needles, more crying... It was heartbreaking...
Then we sent Ubaid for an X-ray scan...
After all of that, all I wished for was to take Ubaid home & hug him tightly... but the doctor told us that Ubaid had to be warded for them to monitor his condition & give him medicines...
Ubaid was warded in Wad Kanak Kanak... Only one parent was allowed to stay with a baby, so wifey & I took turns to take care of him...
I was hard to believe that the ward was not air-conditioned... During the day, the ward was steaming hot because of the weather outside & the ceiling fans provided little help... Ubaid cried & cried for a long while because he was feeling uncomfortable... The heat gave him rashes around his neck area...
Wifey & I agreed that we hate hospitals... Wifey had the experience of being warded for a month before Ubaid popped out & the last thing she ever wanted was for Ubaid to go through the same thing... We really wanted to take him home...
What helped was the fact that the nurses were very friendly... Well, actually, the day shift nurses were friendly... Night shift nurses weren't... The day shift nurses were very gentle with Ubaid & helped wifey & I to calm him when he's not feeling comfortable...
Luckily, baby Ubaid got better & better in time... His fever vanished completely & we were allowed to take him home after two days...
Here's some pics of Ubaid's hospital stay... Though feeling uncomfortable, Ubaid managed to crack some smiles...
