SYNOPSIS: 

Nick Wild (Jason Statham) is a bodyguard for hire. After being raped and beaten, Holly (Dominik García-Lorido) asks for Nick's help so she can have her revenge. 

When there's Statham in a movie, people would expect it to be action packed and macho. Welp, this movie is just the same. The action is awesome and most of the scenes are shot beautifully so audience has a wonderful look of each takedown and killer moves. 

However, the main focus of this movie is not in the action. Sure, the action is quite plenty and satisfying but the soul is in the powerful dramatic performances of its acting cast members. 

The lead which is Statham is awesome as Nick, the person who hates his life and wishes to be free. He surely looks miserable and he acts like a true impulsive gambler. There is actually no story to this movie as the plot revolves mainly on Nick's character development and therefore we can see Statham more as an actor rather than just an action guy. Others may argue that his acting is the same as in other movies but for me, it's refreshing for to see him uttering more than cool one liners. I like the take on his character, especially after his colossal win in the casino. 

The side characters are good too. I especially like Holly, played by Dominik. Her revenge scene is epic and I was so nervous watching it. I could feel it in my balls. Haha. Milo Ventimiglia does his best as the bad guy. I love him in the superhero series, Heroes and it's good to see him acting as a (pathetic) mob boss. He's talented and I wish he is in more movies. 

Some people might be put off by the slow pace but I don't mind because I was so invested in the Statham's character. Yeah, this movie is not for everyone and those who expect it to be a full on action movie would be disappointed.

Woke up at 3.00 a.m to the sound of my firstborn, Ubaid, telling me he had difficulty breathing. He had been ill for a few days. "Bapak, abang tak boleh bernafas", he said with a frail husky voice. So, I immediately woke my wife and I took Ubaid to Hospital Port Dickson. 

After waiting for 30 minutes, we managed to see the doctor. He said that it was not serious. It was just that his tonsil was a bit swollen and that has been causing the constant fever and a bit of difficulty in breathing. The doctor gave us antibiotics, advised Ubaid to drink a lot of water and sent us home. 

By the time we got home, it was 5.00 am. 

I had to go to the office at 5.30 am. There was a group of Indonesians staying at the Politeknik Port Dickson's lodge and they had a morning flight back home. I was supposed to send them to the airport. However, seeing how Ubaid is sick, I had to leave it to the drivers. I had already booked Politeknik transports to send the Indonesians to the airport. 

I went to the lodge to make sure the drivers were there on time, told the drivers I could not go with them and bid the Indonesians goodbye. 

6.00 am. and I just got home. I got myself ready to do more stuff. After showering, I went back to the office at 8.00 to return the keys of the rooms that I used for a debate championship on the 11th, 12th and 13th of February. Besides that, I also returned the keys of the Avanza that I rented for the sake of the debate championship. Before going home, I bought breakfast and went home. 

9.00 am. My second child, Uwais, just woke up and wanted to the pee. So he went to the toilet alone like he always does. I followed him but only to the toilet door. There was a spill of soap on the toilet floor and as soon as he stepped on it, down he went. 

The back of his head hit the floor hard. 

He cried for quite some time. Then, I proceeded to give him a bath and put some clothes on him. At the table while having his breakfast, my wife and I noticed that he seemed rather sleepy. At first, we thought that it was normal because it was still early morning but I did have a bit of a bad feeling when he kept staring into nothing. It was like he was lost in thoughts.

A moment later, he vomited his breakfast. That was when I started to panic. I remember a few doctors say that if a baby vomits after a fall, it can be serious. So, I immediately took his to Hospital Port Dickson.

When I was looking for a parking spot at the hospital, my baby vomited for the second time. As soon as I found a spot, I rushed him to the Emergency Unit.

After I described Uwais' fall and how he vomited, the medical assistant immediately rushed us to the yellow zone. I described what happened again to the doctors and they ordered a X-ray.


During that time, Uwais was pale and he seemed super tired and sleepy which the doctors found worrying.

After we did the X-Ray, Uwais vomited for the third time.

The head X-Ray revealed no fractures or anything abnormal to the skull but the fact that Uwais was rather inactive made us worry. I told the doctors that usually he is very active even when he's sleepy so his condition at that time was rather unusual for him.

That's when the doctors called in the surgery specialist. The specialist examined him and expressed that he was worried that there was a clot in the brain causing the change in behavior. Therefore, he ordered a CT scan.

The CT scanner was at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar at Seremban. We rode an ambulance there and was accompanied by a medical assistant and a medical student. The ambulance ride was a thrill for Uwais. Suddenly, he was no longer tired and kept making ambulance sounds.


When we got to HTJ, we went straight to the CT scan. Uwais was still excited for the ambulance ride so he cooperated during the head scan. He lay down and stayed still long enough for the scan. Such a good kid. Champ.

The wait for the results took forever however I was delighted to see how friendly the doctors at HTJ were. The doctors at HPD were awesome too. People usually describe public hospital doctors to be rude and unhelpful but during this experience, the doctors, the hospital staff, the nurses were all awesomely nice and hardworking.

CT scan showed no bleeding in the brain which was a huge relief. It was 4.30 pm when we were released from HTJ and rode the ambulance back to HPD. It had been a long day and I was hoping that we could go home since all tests and scans showed that Uwais was fine. Besides that, he was back to being active.

Unfortunately, the hospital has a policy of 24 hour observation so Uwais was warded for 24 hours.


I was beyond tired. Luckily, that evening, my wife switched places with me so I could go home and rest. My father in law was also kind enough to come and help take care of Ubaid and visit Uwais.

The nurses and doctors at HPD were awesomely helpful. They were constantly smiling and talking with a friendly tone. I loved them.


The next day, after it was confirmed that Uwais suffered from no trauma, we were discharged at 4.00 pm. Yeay.


All in all, a little lesson that you can learn from my experience is, if you hit your head hard and then vomited, go straight to the hospital because it might be a sign of a concussion or brain injury.

I would also like to thank the staff, nurses and doctors of Hospital Port Dickson and Hospital Tuanku Jaafar for being awesome and nice. 

Hi peeps.

Just got to get stuff out of my chest.

Lately, I have been feeling not as fine as usual. Usually, I would be able to say to myself that I like the way I am and I am comfortable in my own skin. Welp, lately, I am having trouble believing those words.

I might be feeling a bit depressed. Work and the sacrifices of being a husband and father are putting a toll on me. I found myself delaying my work a lot and it is unhealthy. It is like I am sabotaging myself.

I am also always tired. Sometimes I feel tired for no reason. That's the main reason why I feel that I am depressed. It's like there is a huge burden on my shoulders and I am carrying it around everywhere I go, all the time. Plus, I don't really have friends.

I have been doing some reading about depression and I found that it is linked to many suicide cases.

I think people who are close to me know that I am depressed as I am not really trying to hide it. Sometimes it is obvious to see. People keep commenting, "Hey, you look so tired." and "Hey, something's bothering you?"

So, this post serves two purpose which are to clarify, yes, I am quite unhappy with myself and secondly, No, I will not kill myself.

The first one I have elaborated briefly in the first few paragraphs. Now, come to second part.

I want all of you to know that I am not a fan of suicide. Never ever crossed my mind that I want to kill myself, no matter how hard it is.

If given a choice, I would want to live forever. I have always fantasize that if I could choose a superpower, I would choose to have Wolverine's powers. No, not the metal claws and adamantium skeletons thing. Those things are forcefully put into him. I would have preferred to have his extreme healing powers.

Why would I want to live longer? Well, I am curious of what the world become in the future. I would love to see flying cars and awesome robots. I would love to see how far humans would venture out in space.

Okay, maybe I won't be able to see all of that since I don't have that kind of power. But there are also other things to look forward to. For instance, superhero movies. It is very obvious that I love superheroes and I also much enjoy watching movies. So, superhero movies always thrill me. They thrill me enough to not kill myself.

I hope I can see Black Panther soon.

Hehe, yeah I know. My reason is so not cliche. Other people would say that they won't kill themselves because of their family. They don't want their family and loved ones to suffer.

Of course I don't want them to feel sad. I love them.

But it is more important that I do things because it comes from within me. Intrinsic motivation is better than extrinsic ones, in my opinion.

So, yeah, no matter how hard the struggle is, I won't end my life because there is always something to look forward to. I think that is why no matter how hard, I keep waking up every morning and do things that is need to be done.

I would want so bad to curl up in a hole and just stay there but I want to see stuff. Being inside in a cave of sadness won't feed my curiosity and interests.

If you are feeling depressed and having trouble getting out of your bed, please go deep inside yourselves to find something to look forward for. No matter how silly or small, hey, at least it is something.

SYNOPSIS: 

Eloise (Anna Kendrick) is relieved from her duties as the maid of honor after being dumped by her boyfriend, Teddy (Wyatt Russell) who is the bride's brother and best man. However, she decides to attend the wedding anyway and ends up sitting at table number 19 together with the other unwanted guests. 

To be honest, the main reason why I wanted to watch this movie is because of Anna Kendrick. I am a fan because she's like this awkward funny kinda girl. This makes her quite perfect for the role because most of the situations in this movie are super awkward. Can you imagine? Attending a wedding alone while your ex which you clearly still have feelings for is the best man and he has a date. Err... super super awkward. I love her. 

The other supporting actors and actresses are also charming in an awkward way. Yeah, this movie is so big on awkwardness. We have Renzo (Tony Revolori) who is a young, weird teen looking to score a date. Then, the married couple Bina (Lisa Kudrow) & Jerry Kepp (Craig Robinson) who keep arguing with each other. Making things more weird, Walter (Stephen Merchant), who claims himself as a businessman but actually a former convict. Lastly, Jo Flanagan (June Squibb), the bride's former nanny who is hopeful that the bride still remembers her after those long years. Together, they and Eloise form a squad of charming, awkward people. 

Truthfully, this movie is not the type of comedy that gives you full blasts of laughter, no. Rather, most of the jokes would just result in snickers and snorts. I don't mean it in a bad way but I think many would not like this movie. The pacing is rather slow and the jokes are more of one liners and awkward moments. So, if you are looking forward to laugh your ass off, pick another movie because you won't be getting that from this one. If you're into something indie and charming, give this one a go. 

All in all, Table 19 is a charming movie that is slow paced and awkward. It is not much of a rom - com but it's more towards incidentally finding friends in the most awkward situations ever.

SYNOPSIS: 

David Rice (Hayden Christensen) discovers that he has an ability to teleport from one place to another. After living lavishly for so long as a jumper, he learns the hard way about the existence of an underground group that has been actively killing jumpers like him. 

Teleportation is like one of the powers that I most likely to choose if given choices and therefore, I sort of have a soft spot for this movie. I saw this movie when it first came out in 2008 and liked it and recently, I rewatched it and found myself still liking it. 

Reviews have been quite harsh on this movie particularly on the story development which I agree at some point. It starts interestingly with the introduction of David's life and how he first discovered his powers. Then, even more intriguing is the way he chooses to use his powers. The story falls flat when it comes to dealing with the conflict which is David dealing with his hunters - The Paladins. What I mean is, the story is rather boring and uninventive. A guy can teleport and because of that, he is being hunted by some people and he has to deal with it. I expected more from a science fiction. Yeah, rather than sci fi, this is more like an action movie with a bit of sci fi spice. 

Hayden Christensen is horrible in Star Wars and in this one, he is basically the same. Besides that, there is spark of chemistry between him and Rachel Bilson who plays Millie, David's love interest. I am more intrigued with Jamie Bell's character, Griffin because Jamie is such a better actor than Hayden. Samuel L Jackson? Well, as usual, he is a badass motherfucker. 

Okay, the story and acting are the minus points. Lets talk about the things that I like about this movie, okay? 

I like the action parts. I am a fan of action movies, after all. I think the scenes where the Paladins fight with the jumpers are cool. My favorite part is when Griffin fights Roland (Samuel L Jackson) and it is bombastic. 

I also like the visual effects. Yeah, I am a big fan of CGI. The effects of the jumps are cool to see and I love the way the jumpers conveniently teleport from one place to another. So awesome to see. 

All in all, this movie is good but only if you don't think too much about it and just enjoy it for its action scenes and visuals. The story can be hugely improved and I wish Hayden would act like how he does in Shattered Glass instead of Star Wars.
