The Hydra

For those who have watched Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, do you remember the scene when Percy had to fight a hydra in order to get one of the three green pearls? He cut off the Hydra's necks but then the heads grew back and double up...

In Greek mythology, the Hydra was a water beast possessing 9 heads... Yeah, it could regenerate the parts of its body... It was killed by Heracles using a firebrand... The wounds caused by the firebrand (a piece of burning wood - according to an online dictionary) were severely burnt so the Hydra couldn't regenerate and died... You can read more about the Hydra here...

In the real world, there is actually real life Hydra... though it doesnt breath fire or poisonous gas, The tiger salamander has the ability to regenerate most of its lost body parts... Lost limbs, damaged lungs, sliced spinal cord, even bits of lopped off brain wont kill this guy because it can replace all of its damaged organs with regeneration... But it wont double up the organs of course...

Cool huh? Imagine yourself having the capability to regenerate... You'll be like Claire in the TV series "Heroes" or Wolverine from X-Men...

:-D
