THE STORY

Bad-Ass Kate Beckinsale

Kate Beckinsale is freakin' hot in tight leather suit... but it's not her looks that impress me most... It's her ability to bring out the physicality of the character Selene... She was tough and bad-ass with her awesome stunts and cool moves... 

Action

It doesn't need a genius to figure out that Underworld : Awakening is focused on action solely... This movie is action packed as all mythological creatures have a chance to show how fierce and powerful they are... What I loved to see the most was Selene's sort of ninja moves... At first u see her a few hundred metres away and next thing u know, she's behind u slicing throat...

THE MINUS POINTS

The Pace

My lovely wife, who watched this movie with me, commented that the pace was too fast... Just when she wanted to enjoy and submerge deeper into the heart of a particular scene, the story suddenly shifted into another sequence... I agreed... It made me wonder, "What's the rush??"... Why did the producers were too eager to end the movie at 1 hour and 28 minutes when they could just extend it to the level of perfection in terms of pacing? Hmmm... Is it to make the battles more engaging? or they wanted to limit the non-action scenes? 

Emotionless Kate Beckinsale

Yeah, Kate excelled with flying colours when it comes to badassery and coolness... However, she failed to create heartfelt emotions in scenes that was supposed to be "touching"... For example, when Subject 2 revealed that how emotionless Selene was even after she'd learnt about the true connection between them, Kate couldn't portray true emotions and thus screwing the scene... 

No Human Action

I was hoping that the humans put up more fight... I wanted to see a human hero overpowering vampires and Lycans... Yeah, it would be awesome to see a normal but muscular person beating the shit out of the monsters... However, in the end, humans are still the inferior ones... 

THE VERDICT

If u've watched the rest of the Underworld series (especially the first two movies), then u'll definitely know what to expect from Awakening... There are plenty of engaging action sequences and filled with cool vampire werewolf stuff... I've watched all of the previous ones and I love them all and thus, this one is a big treat for me... That's why I kept bugging my wife about how much I wanted to watch this movie... If u don't like the previous installment, then don't bother watching... 

By the way, looks like PM Najib is true to his words... No more censorship on foreign movies... Jyyeah!! No more nude and extremely gory scenes being cut out... Yeay~

I was wearing a really cool jacket and tie while other lecturers just wore boring corporate shirts... and I my hair was messy and spiky... I have that "Western Influenced" look and therefore I'm obviously an ENGLISH lecturer...

Dear boys and girls, your dangling nose hair is clearly visible...

Starting that day, I vowed that I would never play games at work again...

I love alien invasion movies basically not because I have an odd fascination on extraterrestrial (ET) beings but simply because I love war movies... Well, the battle between alien forces and humans is still considered as war right? 

Upon seeing the trailer, I kept my optimism high and hoped that this movie would sort of be like Cloverfield which one of my favorite picks since both are focusing on the civilians and not the army... I guess that's why I even opted for the 3D showing... A grave mistake...

THE STORY

5 young people, Sean (Emile Hirsch), Ben (Max Minghella), Natalie (Olivia Thirlby), Anne (Rachael Taylor) and Skyler (Joel Kinnaman), came to Moscow in search for new hopes and dreams... However, after a series of events, they found themselves stranded at a foreign land, hiding and fighting for survival against a unit of invisible and advanced alien armies... 

THE GOOD STUFF

Cool Invasion Concept

Instead of just mindlessly attacking the human kind with fire and burn everything to the ground, the aliens hide themselves in invisible armor and torch every living thing first before harvesting earth's resources... That's a really creative idea and definitely something new...

Even the ways to detect the aliens are cool... Using light bulbs at night and phones during the day...

THE BAD STUFF

Too Much of Explaining

The producers underestimate the audience and treat them like dumb people by letting the characters explain so much about what's happening and what they're doing... It's really annoying... The producers should've focused more on emotions and panic by making more scenes like the police car scene when they first discover how to detect those aliens... Besides that, try making it more suspenseful by making silent scenes last longer...

Definitely Not Meant for 3D

The picture was dimmed by the 3D effects and therefore, audience had to squint their eyes to have a better look at the picture... Besides that, it's clear that this movie wasn't meant to be turned into a 3D movie since there are so little 3D effects that I could see... The only eye piercing experience I had was when the aliens' shield got damaged and explode... 

Acting

All characters didn't stand out... They're all... just ordinary (a less offensive word for "boring")... I didn't feel any emotions showing... The only touching moment for me was when Ben... died... Sorry for the spoiler... I was startled when Ben was killed because it's kinda unpredictable...

Heck, even the Russian patriots do not look as bad-ass as they should... I always imagive Russians as ruthless monsters... Me iz disappointed...

Lame Last Battle

There's no climatic battle... Hmm... Actually, there is, but I refuse to acknowledge it since it's just lame... Not much drama... The producers thought that by jamming the weapon, audience shall be intrigued... However, it's quite predictable... I've seen it in so many movies... Weapon got jammed and by the time the enemy's close by, it suddenly work...

ALL IN ALL

The concept on the movie is something new and interesting... However, the producers fail to impress because the plot is rather lame and the actors didn't stand out at all... This movie is boring...

THE STORY

Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler) and Jill Sadelstein (Adam Sandler) are twins... Though they look the same, their lives and personalities are quite different from each other... Jack is a successful advertising executive at Los Angeles with two kids and beautiful wife whereas Jill lives alone in Bronx... Jack's not quite fond of Jill because of her neediness and tries the best he can to get away from her... 

THE REVIEW

Actually there's little for me to say about this movie... Whether u love it or hate it depends on what u expect from this movie...


If u loved Adam Sandler's latest past few movies - Just Go With It and Grown Ups, then u'll be laughing your ass out at the silly and slapstick jokes...

However, if u're looking for Adam Sandler at his best which is when he did The Longest Yard, The Wedding Singer, Waterboy and 50 First Dates, u would most probably be disappointed... 

Lately, Sandler's movies are all about the jokes and they lack "heart"... It's sort of he's become lazy and therefore not much have been put into his works... I miss the days when most of his movies provide not just laughs but also inspiration and emotional feed...

Nevertheless, I did have a good time watching the movie... The slapsticks are hilarious and the lack of seriousness in this movie is good for me to just sit back and relax myself...


Al Pacino was supposed to be one of the highlights in this movie... but I think he's not funny at all... His best performance in this movie is only when he danced for the Dunkachino ad... The Mexicano gardener, Felipe (Eugenio Derbex) should have been given more screen time because he's sure a lot funnier than Mr. Pacino...  Even Gary Sadelstein (Rohan Chand), is funnier than Pacino... 

If u're looking for something silly and funny just to take ur mind off of work, then this movie is for u... However, if u're not into stupid jokes and u dont find the idea of a man dressing a woman is funny, the 90 minutes of watching this movie will be a very long one for u...
