"A masterpiece"... I kept saying that in my head after watching the movie...
THE STORY
World's best detective, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.), was back on his quest to stop Professor James Moriarty (Jared Harris) from spreading chaos into the world by triggering World War...
WHAT'S BRILLIANT?
Robert Downey Jr.
It's hard to deny the fact that Robert Downey Jr. is the best guy ever to play Holmes mostly because of his looks of arrogance and confidence... He's the best thing the script writers, Michele and Kieran Mulroney, could have as he execute every line with total brilliance of good acting... He also contributed most of the humor for the audience to loosen up and chuckle with all of the silly costumes and witty use of words...
Special Effects and Camera Work
The most impressive scene in this movie is the shooting (or bombing) in the forest... With awesome addition of CGI and smart use of ultra high frame rate slow motion, the scene is something to behold...
The most memorable thing of this movie for most of the audience is of course the prediction-before-assault move Holmes uses to fight... We can see slow motion at its best during the time when Holmes tried to outwit Moriarty at the end of the climatic scene...
Script
Michele and Kieran Mulroney did an awesome job with the script for I was merrily entertained with all of the British accented witty lines and the seasoning of humor... This is a movie about two geniuses battling wits and of course it wont be complete without them trying to outsmart each other out with use of brilliant choice of words...
WHAT'S NOT?
Too Much "Bromance"
Sure, the "bromance between Holmes and Watson (Jude Law) is hilarious and entertaining... but too much of it seems to fade out all of the laughs... And because they focused too much on both of the main characters, little resources where given others... Noomi Rapace who played Madame Simza Heron, the gypsy, should have been given a bit of the limelight because she was an essential member of the Sherlock team... Let's admit it, non of the audience found her quite memorable... I was also disappointed to see so little of Irene Adler...
Too Fast?
Some of the audience who were watching the movie with me had trouble catching up with Holmes... I assume it's because of their lack of mastery in English language... Holmes sometimes revealed his awesome plans verbally in a fast manner of verbalization... Therefore, those who didn't understand English quite much tend to be left behind as the subtitles were also going fast and they didn't have the chance to read most of them...
ALL IN ALL
I would like to summarize that Sherlock Holmes : Game of Shadows is an excellent movie as it contains great humor and action sequences, awesome effects and camera work, and good script writing and engaging plot... Yeay~
