I don't usually feature downloaded or DVD rip movies on my blog but I was too excited seeing Chris Evans in this one... Don't know Chris Evans? Maybe you would remember Captain America (2011)... Yup.. Thanks a lot to Ridhwan for sharing the movie...

THE STORY

Ryan (Chris Evans) had a phone call from a stranger that turned out to be a kidnapped victim named Jessica Martin (Kim Basinger)... At first, he thought that it was a joke but after talking to her for quite a moment, he learned that the kidnapping was true and if he hanged up the phone, there would be no other way for him to help her... Unable to get through the cops, Ryan took measures into his own hands... He struggled to save Jessica and her family from the grip of Ethan (Jason Statham) and his gang while keeping the line connected...

THE AWESOME STUFF

Chris Evans

He sure did good in this one... His acting was natural and he's quite charming and funny... Not to mention, he's good looking too (I'm saying this in a manly kind of way)... I loved him in this one because he delivered such a memorable performance acting as an irresponsible teen trying to do something considerate and helpful for the first time... His actions might seemed harsh and rushed at times but they kinda work and it led him to being the hero of the day...

The Cast

Besides Evans, Jason Statham, Kim Basinger and William H. Macy also did a great job... If u're familiar with Statham, u would know his style of acting - husky voice with a cynical and threatening tone and cool action moves... The same style was used for this movie but unlike the others, he played the bad guy in this one...

Kim Basinger also did great acting as a desperate kidnap victim... She put up quite a struggle and even managed to deliver a few punches on Statham...

William H. Macy, though his role was quite small at first, provided support for Evans in terms of fighting power... He played an almost retired cop who got curious with the case and decided to investigate on his own... His actions got him involved deeper in the situation and luckily, he succeeded in putting the pieces together and helped Ryan to win the fight...

Story Concept and Movie Direction

I liked the story... A stranger called and the next thing u know, u're running around town being chased by corrupt cops and saving lives while struggling keep in touch with the her via the phone line...

Furthermore, I also would like to praise David R. Ellis for the good movie direction... The scenes were made simple yet engaging, suspenseful, funny and shocking sometimes - perfect for an action thriller... It managed to get me stuck on my seat (my mattress actually) for through out the whole movie... The pace was also great where even though it's a chase-thriller movie, the scenes didn't seem like they're rushed...

NOT SO AWESOME STUFF

Too Much Luck and Coincidences

Who the hell put a phone at the attic?? Besides that, even though Jessica Martin was a school teacher, I didn't think she would have the knowledge to put together a shattered house phone... It's quite ridiculous when u think about it... Besides that, Ryan jumped into the water when he tried to escape Ethan... However, the Nokia 6600 did not get water-damaged and thus enabling him to call Ethan as a distraction while in the final gunfight...
Well, this kind of mistakes is quite common in movies and forgivable at most times...

ALL IN ALL

This movie is a good action chase-thriller mainly because of the brilliant acting by the cast (mainly Chris Evans) and also the good pace, story and direction... I love Chris Evans more after watching this...

3.5 out of 5 stars

One more I would like to add... Since this movie is shown in 2004, the mobile technology used is quite nostalgic for me... Handphone "sabun", monotone ringtones, 3gp videos... Haa... It reminded me of my school days...
