Sam Childers was a troubled teen... His active involvement with drugs, alcohol, women and crime has earned him a place as a Shotgunner - an armed guard for drug dealers - in the past... However, his father's words - “Boy, somebody’s gonna kill you one of these days!” - had changed him into a better person...
Now, instead of fighting to protect drug dealers, he picks up machine guns in order to protect kids in Sudan... Childers and his wife gave away almost all of their possession to raise money and founded an orphanage called Angels of East Africa, the Children’s Village in Southern Sudan... Currently, he has saved more than 300 orphans and constantly fighting to rescue more...

Childers also details the events of his life and his experiences in Africa in his book - Another Man's War.
Gerard Butler will star as Sam Childers in an upcoming biopic movie - The Machine Gun Preacher - that will be released into cinemas on September 23rd, 2011...
Though the title suggests that the movie is action packed, certain sources rumored that it will be otherwise... Since it's a biopic, the story would focus more on Childers' background and his development into a priest instead of the war in Sudan...
The gain from the movie will be used to build another orphanage for kids in Sudan...

I have seen a pre-screening and the movie is action packed and very touching and about the war in Sudan and Childers development from a drug addict to preacher. It's got a little bit of everything, but most of all the story is simply amazing. I can't wait to see it again in theaters.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited because of Gerard Butler :-)
