Kajaki (2014) [Review]

"I didn't see a flash or feel a blast or heat, it was as if I'd stood on a banana skin."

SYNOPSIS:

This movie is set near the Kajaki Dam in Afghanistan. Three British soldiers set out to disable a Taliban roadblock and then, one of them steps on a mine. Other soldiers come to help but the rescue attempt proves to be a dangerous one the area is full of mines.

First of all, I want all of you to know that Kajaki (also known as Kilo Two Bravo) is freaking suspenseful. It literally and figuratively had me at the edge of my seat! I cringed so hard, laughed and held my breath through out most of the movie because it is absolutely intense! Arghhh

It starts off rather dull. This is most probably because I don't really get the banters as I am not familiar with British slang and references. But when it gets to the exciting part - the part when one of the soldiers got blown off by a mine, damn, things get seriously heart wrenching.

A huge kudos to the actors for their awesome performance. The interaction between characters feel grittily authentic and the actors are able to show a lot of emotions. I can't really say who shines the most because honestly, all of the actors have done a hell of a job. But if I have to choose, I would give Best Performance to Mark Stanley for his performance as Tug Hartley the army medic. I screamed so hard out of suspense watching him cross the mine field with a bag pack.

This movie is shot very well. I love the fact that even in chaotic scenes such as when a chinook lands to transfer the wounded and wind is blowing frantically, the cameras are not shaky. I love it. I despise shaky cams. The decision to not shake the cam makes the scenes more intense as the details of what is happening can be clearly seen.

All in all, Kajaki is an extremely well made movie and a must see because of its intensity and suspense. Bare in mind though that it is not a war action movie and therefore there are no fire fights. So, don't expect it to like Saving Private Ryan. It is also different from the Hurt Locker because it is not as glamorized. Seriously, if you haven't, please do yourself a favor and and watch it. You will be blown away.

5 out of 5 stars!
