“White.
The color of trust. It’s the color of honesty.

And the color of the lies he tells himself.”

SYNOPSIS:

This movie contains three stories which are set in three places. The first one is about an award winning novelist, Micheal (Liam Neeson) who is having an affair with Anna (Olivia Wilde) in Paris. Next, Julia (Mila Kunis) is having a custody battle for her son against Rick (James Franco) in New York. Lastly, Scott (Adrien Brody), a businessman gets involved with a gypsy like woman, Monika (Moran Atias) in Rome.

To tell you the truth, I looked for this movie because I saw a GIF on Reddit showing one of this movie's scenes where Olivia Wilde is completely naked. Judging from that GIF alone, I expected this movie to be a romantic comedy or a sensual kind of a romance movie.

It turns out that this movie is so so much more than just a romance. Damn, this movie is heavier than I initially thought and it is rather thought provoking especially as it reaches the end.

As mentioned in the synopsis, this movie consists of three stories and when I first started watching it, I anticipated that it is going to be something like Valentine's Day (2010) where all three stories would be connected to one another and all of the characters are actually related. But, as the movie progressed, I had trouble connecting Adrien Brody and Moran Atias' characters with the others. "How are they connected?", I kept asking myself while wrecking my brain to think about how the connection would cleverly be revealed at the end. To my surprise, this movie is not like Valentine's Day at all. There's a big plot twist at the end that just made me say, "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?"

In short, I like the story (or stories) because of the plot twist. Well, not just because of the plot twist. Overall, all three of them are rather engaging but the plot twist seals the deal for me.

Even though I think the story is intriguing, I can also say that it is also flawed. At times, the pacing of it gets rather slow and draggy. Aside from that, there are times when I get rather confused of the flow. The story is the kind of story that is good when you really think about it. When you indulge it wholeheartedly. If you're looking for something light, then this movie is definitely not for you. Hmm... the story is both the selling and minus point for this movie.

I love how powerful the main cast members are with their performances. I personally love Anna which is played by Olivia Wilde because she's bold and a bit of crazy but at times can be rather vulnerable and small. Apart from that, Mila Kunis gives an extremely memorable and emotional performance which is rather rare since she often does comedies and rom coms. Seriously, the acting by all actors and actresses are top notch.

All in all, this movie is good because of the engaging story and strong cast members. However, it is not for everyone as it can get rather draggy at the middle.

3 out of 5 stars.
