Predestination (2014) [Review]

"What if I could put him in front of you? The man that ruined your life. If I could guarantee that you'd get away with it, would you kill him?"

An agent (Ethan Hawke) of a secret organization travels through time in order to stop the Fizzle Bomber who has killed many innocent lives.

The main attraction of this movie is in its story which can be described as a freakin mindfuck. The story starts literally with a boom and then progresses slowly until the second and final act. Honestly, the first act for me feels a bit draggy but as it enters the second act and finishing act, the long and draggy part becomes necessary.

One thing for sure, you really need to concentrate when watching this movie because once you lose track, the whole story will be extremely confusing. Actually, even if you pay full attention, you will still end up confused but at least not extremely confused.

Therefore, only watch this movie if you feel like you want to challenge your brain a bit. This movie is absolutely not for leisure watching.

Why is it confusing? Because it involves time travel and meeting your past self. Predestination is like a big pondering of the joke "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

Anyway, in terms of acting, the cast members do a great job especially the lead actress, Sarah Snook. At one moment, she seems sweet and cute but at other moments, she's gritty and solemn. She's just awesome. Besides, Ethan Hawke also gives a memorable performance.

I am trying so hard to not spoil anything for you if you haven't watched this because once you know the plot twists, the story would be ruined. So, if you plan on watching, be warned that the story is confusing and a bit dark but at the same time, very interesting. Finally, I have to tell you that this movie is not an action movie. Despite it has Ethan holding a gun in the poster, the action part is rather scarce. If you prefer to see action, you may try Looper.

4 out 5 stars.

Owh, one thing I forgot to add. Watching this movie feels like reading a novel because of the pacing and tone. Yup.
