Maki: Lightweight and Fast Alternative to Facebook & Twitter app
Monday, November 13, 2017
Okay, so my wife bought me a new phone since my old phone was cracked and had trouble with the dialer interface. She bought me a Huawei Y3II which is a good low end phone but the problem is the RAM is rather small - 1GB. Therefore, it inspired me to find lightweight and fast alternative to Facebook official app, which is even though awesome but RAM hogging.
I've tried a few apps that are suggested by a few websites such as Tinfoil, Swipe and Swift for Facebook but I've come to a conclusion that the best alternative for the Facebook app is Maki for Facebook and Twitter.
MAKI FOR FACEBOOK & TWITTER
The name is rather funny for me as a Malay because in the Malay language, the word 'maki' means insult (verb) or scold. It's like this app is made for people to insult other people on Facebook and Twitter. Hehe
Right, similar to Tinfoil, Swift, Swipe and many other similar apps like, Maki is a wrapper app which means it's actually a web browser specifically for browsing Facebook and Twitter. That is why it is lightweight and doesn't require too much RAM to perform smoothly.
Why do I prefer Maki over other wrapper apps is that it is definitely the fastest among all. Swipe is a close competitor but Swipe is only for Facebook while Maki covers Facebook, Messenger, Twitter and even Instagram. 4 social media platforms in one app? Yeah, that is what I'm talking about!
At first I was quite worried that it would not be as fast because I have tried Metal for Facebook & Twitter before I installed Maki and I found that Metal was rather laggy. Fortunately, Maki works smoothly for my phone and I am so in love with it.
More good news is that this app contains no ads (Facebook provides it's own ads) and it is definitely free. If you don't mind paying, you can opt for Maki Pro which offers options to disable Facebook advertising, auto night mode and more. But for me, the free version of Maki is awesome and you're not missing much if you're not willing to pay.
Apart from that, it also has the feature of power saving mode so that you can use the app longer. Below is the interface when it is in power saving.
Furthermore, there are 12 colour schemes that you can apply.
All in all, Maki is definitely the app you should have if you are so concerned about RAM space and you want all Facebook, Messenger, Twitter and Instagram in one app. I have to warn you though, the features are no match for the official Facebook, Messenger, Twitter and Instagram apps since it's just a wrapper app. Just give it a try first and if you can tolerate the downgrade, stick to Maki. But if you value the rich visual and functionality features of the official apps, then just ignore this suggestion.
