Last month, I was assigned to accompany a few students to join the PolyE-Cup (Debate, Newscasting and Story Telling) tournament at Politeknik Tuanku Sirajuddin Shah (PTSS), Arau, Perlis. While being there, I chose to stay at the Wooden Chalet D'Solo, a rustic and homey accommodation that my family and I love so much.
The main attraction of this homestay or chalet is the calming view of the paddy fields stretching faraway. Sitting at the small shed in the above picture, I just couldn't help to think that the place is the best place for me to relax my weary bones during my old days.
Apart from that, the other attraction is the horses. Yes, real horses. The white wooden fences that you see almost surrounding the house homestay are meant for the horses.
The horses are very friendly. You can even ask the owner of the place, Mr. Azmi, for free horse rides! Awesome.
Mr. Azmi is very friendly and so keen to explain on how to properly ride a horse and the benefit of horse riding. Apparently, it's good for the spine and body posture.
Honestly, the main reason why we chose to stay at this place is because of the horses. Seeing how my kids played with the horses was awesome. We all had the chance to ride and interact with the horses.
The room is comfortable enough. It's vast and air conditioned.
There's a small TV provided provided with limited local channels. Besides that, there are also a kettle, iron and ironing board and a microwave oven.
Bare in mind that this is not a 5 star hotel. It's just a homestay that is located at the heart of scenic village. Therefore, no, it doesn't have free WiFi, which is not a bad thing. Less online distraction equals to more meaningful experience being in the relaxing countryside.
The bed is large enough though the mattress is not deluxe. The sheets and towels are what you would expect to get when you visit your grandmother's place. Like I said, it's a rustic stay.
The bathroom is clean but there is no heater. Hey, that's the kampung life.
All in all, Wooden Chalet D'Solo is definitely a humble yet sweet place to stay. The surrounding view is awesomely scenic. The air is clean and ahhhhhh. The owner is nice. Nice enough to give memorable horse rides for free!
If you plan on booking this place, you can contact Mr. Azmi from this number = 013-4261897 or his wife, Puan Widiyati = 019-4731208 and his daughter, Miss Husna = 011-26950218.
It is RM130 per night though if you call one of those numbers, they'll probably give you discounts especially if you want to stay for more than one night. Like I said, they're nice people. Don't book it via any app or site because the price would be fixed.
The address of the place =
Chalet D'Solo, KM 3.4 Jalan Jejawi-Tok
Kayaman, Kg Sungai Mati,
Ngulang, 02500 Mata Ayer
