"If it managed to make my girl shed a tear while smiling, then it's gotta be a good rom-com..."

It seems that the month of February is full with hyped movies such as I Am Number Four, Sanctum, No Strings Attached and a few more... Feeling that I wont be able to catch them all if I keep delaying, I went for a movie marathon with my grrrl where we watched No Strings Attached (staring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman) and Drive Angry (staring Nicholas Cage and Amber Heard)...

Here is the short review of No Strings Attached...

STORY

At first, it was just physical... SHE (Emma) needed sex and HE (Adam) needed a life... However, one day, HE discovered that there's gotta be more to the relationship... HE wanted to be more than a fuck buddy... HE wanted love... Whereas, SHE thought that love is just a hassle and thus, it is not needed... Then, u can figure out the rest... HE tried to get HER while SHE backed away, then SHE realized HER mistake, and yada yada yada... Typical stuff...

THE GOOD

Ashton Kutcher

Kutcher has been developing a reputation as an idiot in the movies... An idiot who's deeply in love... Not to mention, a very charming one... He certainly can act... The fact that he's been taking this type of roles in previous movies (Valentine's Day, American Gigolo and etc...) must had driven the directors into thinking that, "Hey, I think that Kutcher is the best to play Adam..." Well, if they did think like that, I should say that they made the right choice... In my opinion, he's the best thing in this movie...

Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman

Their duo performance amused me... I loved to see how Natalie Portman acted all sleepy and lazy all the time... I found that it's cute and it matched her character well... Her performance was backed up by Kutcher with his warm-hearted way of acting... They would make a cute couple...

THE BAD

The Story

It was supposed to be focused on the development of the relationship between Adam and Emma... However, Adam somehow was given more spotlight and the story revolved more on him trying to fix up his life and relationship with his father (rather than with Emma)... It's as though Emma didn't quite matter in this movie...

The length of the story was also too long... There were too many insignificant scenes that involved insignificant characters... It's like the directors were trying too hard to make the movie longer... This story should be made shorter and sweeter...

 Censorship

I really wanna see Natalie Portman sexing...

The Malay Subs

Seriously, I wanted to find out who made the subtitles... Because it was terrible... "Can I finger you?" was translated into "Boleh saya sondol awak?"... Well, it contributed to the laugh, but the tiny bit of OCDness inside me is telling that it was absurd...

All in all, No Strings Attached is not bad... there's a lot of likes in it especially on the romantic scenes... though it could be done better in terms of the plot development and story... If you're a simpleton or a really sweet person, this movie might leave you grinning for a few weeks... However, if you're a movie analyst, you might grumble and wanna shoot yourself during the movie...

3 out of 5 stars...
