As a fan of Zack Snyder's work, Sucker Punch is indeed my most anticipated movie of the year... Why? Well, just look at that damn trailer!
Must Watch Checklist
Definitely a must watch
Like most movie fans, my mind exploded when I first saw Snyder's first work, 300, which had earned him a reputation of one of the best action movie makers of all time... His trademark would be the slow motion killing massacre that without fail, always manage to create maximum excitement in an action sequence...
Unlike the rest of the movies he directed, Sucker Punch is entirely Snyder's own creation - he directed it, he produced and he even wrote the story... I considered this as his first attempt to create his own movie franchise... So, did he deliver and live up to his reputation? Or this just proves that he should just stick to only directing and producing? Go watch and judge for yourself...
I've watched the movie last night with my honey lemonade and this is my verdict...
"Sucker Punch” is an epic action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, and her incredible adventures blur the lines between what’s real and what is imaginary.

Special Effects
If you've watched the movie Inception, then you'll know what to expect in a movie involving the concept of dreams and imaginary worlds - fucking awesome visual effects... Furthermore, Snyder is one of the most talented when it comes to CGI effects creation...
For me, the best part of the movie was when Baby Doll battled the giant samurais... It's like watching an anime! Even my grrrlfriend was like "Is this based on a comic??"
The time when Baby Doll and the other girls battle the steam punk zombie army was very cool... It's delightful to see steam coming out from every bullet hole and sword slash...

Trust me, it was one hell of a ride... Every time Baby Doll started dancing, I braced myself to be bombarded with surreal vision of epic wars and imaginary battles... How I wished Baby Doll didn't stop dancing because the imaginary world portrayed was more exciting than reality...
Music
Not just my eyes, but my ears were also treated with epic coolness... I really love the soundtracks played through out the movie... Rock and heavy metal music all the way from the start until the end! The best part is, almost all of the tracks were sung by females...
The Cast
If the cast lineup is not a plus point for this movie, then I don't know what is... The girls, especially Emily Browning (Baby) put up a really good act not just in the action scenes, but also in portraying the emotions of the characters...
The main girls underwent fighting and physical training before they began shooting... They were told to deadlift until 95 kg for their roles... The fighting choreography training was conducted by Damon Caro, the stunt coordinator from 300, Watchmen and the Bourne movie series...
Though most people seem to adore Baby Doll, but among the main characters, I was most attracted to Rocket... Her hair and her bad ass attitude intrigued me...
MINUS POINTS
The Story
It leaves us with too many questions such as, are the girls real or are they just inside of Baby Doll's head? Did Baby Doll really tried to escape? because at the end, Blue (the real one) seemed to have a wound at the exact spot where Baby stabbed him in her first level of imagination... and a burned room was also shown... It's a bit out of sense... Yes, I know, it's a movie about imagination, so it was supposed to not make sense... However, it's hard for to decipher the connection between the two levels of imagination with reality... Even the narration did not help a bit in explaining what the hell is going on in the story...
The Reality
Snyder was too focused on making the imaginary world awesome that he seemed to neglect reality... Seriously, the reality parts (err, that includes the first stage of Baby Doll's imagination) were really boring and less effective... The only interesting part of reality was the first scene where Baby struggled to fight her mean and abusive step father...
What would improve the movie is a better script and screenplay, written by a competent screenwriter (no offense Snyder)... and maybe a better antagonist (no offense Oscar Isaac / Blue)...
The Fifth Item
No last imaginary battle?? Aww... that sucks... I really hope that Baby Doll would dance again for the fifth item but instead, she just kicked a guy's balls... That's like an anti-climax for me...
ALL IN ALL
Actually, I had to admit that Sucker Punch disappointed me a bit mostly because I didn't like how the reality part and first level of imagination had been carried out and how they are related to each other... Nice try Snyder, but maybe u should just think of the concept and main idea and then let the professional, well-established movie writers do all the planning on how the story should flow... That's just my honest opinion...
Whereas, the surreal warfare and battle were superb... FUCKINGMINDBLOWING... I love all of the four imaginary battles... I even hoped that Snyder would give me more of action... Just leave out the reality part and just make a movie fully imaginary...
So, I'm actually at the middle here... It's like a neutral feeling... I don't really hate it and I really wanna like it... Shit, this sucks... Urmm... Like I said, go watch and decide for yourself...
But after a few hours of pondering and putting up together all of the pieces, I felt like watching it again... I wanna experience the imaginary world again and immerse myself into the story...
3.75 out of 5 stars...
That's my final rating... This movie rocks... Enough said
